My favorite medium is oil. My paintings are best described as representational with subtle abstraction. I enjoy painting cloudscapes: to capture the soft wispness and creamy white puffs one would see lazily moving across the sky on a beautiful summer day. On the other hand, the crackling energy of dark thunderheads which warn of a rapidly approaching storm are equally inspiring!

Another favorite subject would be vast and expansive landscapes, especially fields of wheat, sage and grasses bordered by deep blue mountains, like those found in New Mexico. New Mexican vistas are often filled with unexpected color, and capturing the receding space created by atmosphere is very rewarding.

A love affair with nature has led me to create EcoPrints, a process where leaves, grasses and flowers are steamed onto silk fabric and stretched over canvas. The interplay of shape, color and composition using these simple elements are always a beautiful surprise!

Each monoprint is unique, and a lasting homage to the sweet plants offering their beauty to the world.

Having been a scientist in my entire life, I found that being an artist made me more spontaneous and freer in expressing my feeling and images that I carry in my head. Spontaneity in science is rare. Sometimes, when one is not actively thinking about the subject, something triggers an “Ah ha” moment. However, one has been thinking and working about the subject for a long time.

Late in my life, I am trying different outlets– music and art. Music demands disciplined practice. Perhaps that is why I like music. Art, seems to be different. Maybe, I can carry my love for spontaneity and experimenting new things for my transition from science to painting. - Kyong

I derive great inspiration from being in Nature, from traveling and and cross-cultural experiences. I believe true artists function as shamans and alchemists of the society at large. Painting is my commitment, meditation, expression of the awe and mystery of life. I have also practiced a variety of artistic disciplines including video and installation art. I have a MA in Fine Art, from Central Saint Martins College of Art in London, U.K.

Artist statement
My work is influenced by the natural world around me, my inner world, and the perceived separation between the two. My subconscious guides the content and emotion of my work. Curiosity motivates me to witness expressions of myself unfold. I'm continuously learning about myself through my creative process as a metaphor for how I live my life. Because of this connection between my internal and external existence painting provides a powerful outlet for healing and growth.

Artist Statement:
Through these photographs I express my feelings for the places I visit and the wonders of nature that I encounter along the way. I believe the most important quality of a photograph is to create an emotional response. I work to compose the images so that they communicate my view, and therefore empart my feelings about what I am seeing.

I am a self-taught photographer with a background in graphic design. I have been taking photos for about 10 years. My graphics background has helped me with composition, and embracing the frame defined by the lens. I have struggled to learn and understand the photographic process, and worked daily, through trial and error, to perfect my talent.

I come from a family of talented artists, and believe that their encouragement has been instrumental in any success I may have.

I hope you enjoy my photographs, and I welcome your comments

Statement/Bio
Inner realities are discovered through introspection. The seeds of new concepts can take root and grow there. As an artist, I attempt to cultivate the subconscious realm and reveal them for the public. Ultimately, I think art should strive to enlighten- to bring one closer to a truth, to the heart of one’s nature. It can and should reach beyond the mass appeal of popular culture’s trends while defying manufactured hype and constant self-indulgence. I believe art can truly expand consciousness if it’s intention is to reflect ideas greater than oneself.

The images of mandalas and the supernatural are ancient ideas that have interested cultures for ages. They are the direct influence of the richness and beauty that is our individual lives, our earth, and the stars beyond. I can think of no better well that an artist can draw continuously flowing inspiration from than our own collective existence and our potential as conscious beings. I honor the way of nature in my art, to express life while living; an infinite surrender to the methods of the Great Mystery.

Chris Huang creates much of his artwork with colored pencil and ink on wood. The work reflects our connection with the natural world and is often represented through mandala, plant, animal, and human imagery. Though the art is meticulously hand-crafted, it is truly a labor of love and an opportunity for the artist to express and connect with higher, cosmic ideals and concepts. He has shown in galleries throughout the southwest states as well as in California. He currently resides in Boulder, CO with his wife and children.
