Martha-Peacock.com Once upon a time, there was a woman who exchanged the competitive life of a sales person for the heady environment of academia. She was searching for her soul. Then one day, she met the woman who gave birth to her and learned that art was part of her bloodline. Many members of her biological family loved the same thing she did: color, design, texture, and balance. This new knowledge gave the woman permission to explore a world she was taught to ignore. Soon she picked up a loaded paintbrush and touched it to canvas. She's been painting ever since, interrupted from time to time to complete a Ph.D., move 'cross country with her husband and revel in the joy her granddaughters bring to her life. If you asked her today why she paints, she'd say, "I paint because the closer I come to the depth of my talent, the closer I come to my own truth." Martha Peacock (Ph.D.)

I’ve been in love with photography since my teens. I first expressed that passion by taking candid photos of people on the crowded streets of New York. After college, I worked in advertising and fashion photography interning with some of the top commercial photographers of the day, and eventually opened my own studio. Like most people who turn their hobbies into a living, I lost the passion for photography and eventually I left it for other things. I had the good fortune to live in northern California for many years and this incredibly beautiful area inspired me to pick up a camera again. But instead of photographing people, I wanted to capture the amazing landscape surrounding us. I started small with 35mm film but soon I moved to 4x5 so that I could make large, sharp, detailed prints. We were very settled in California, but life being what it is, we're now living in Boulder Colorado, next to the Rocky Mountains. I have the amazing good luck to be able to hike in the foothills every morning, and I'm doing my best to translate my inspiration into prints. I still shoot 4x5 film, but do most of my Colorado images are taken with a digital camera. I've found it works better for me in this environment. It's my experience that at the core we are peace and love, and art can point us to that core. It is my hope that my images may contribute to your peace and happiness. Artist Statement My artwork combines many elements that reflect the environments, people, and culture of Colorado. I use digital photography to make small things look monumental in scale. The subjects of my photos are my papier-mâché animals which mimic human actions and idiosyncrasies. I photograph them in the location where they belong thematically. The materials and techniques I use to create my sculptures are relatively simple, newspaper, wheat paste, and inexpensive paint. The process is very immediate and flexible, and perfect for the dry climate and outdoor environment of Colorado. The sculptures are small but in the photographs they become monumental in size, overtaking the environments where they are placed. When there is political and social commentary in my work I treat it with humor, and see my photographs as a humorous twist on the proliferation of photography, specifically nature photography as an art form. Recently I have begun a new body of work using old wood. I cut and layer the wood to create whimsical, large scale sculptures of animals and people, with some found object elements. Bio Lisa Michot is a mixed-media artist who resides in Lafayette, CO. She received her BFA from Louisiana Tech University, her MFA from Brooklyn College in New York where she studied with Phillip Pearlstein and Lee Bontecou, and attended the Skowhegan School for Painting and sculpture in Maine where she studied with Martin Puryear. She has exhibited her work at many locations around the Denver metro area including Spark Gallery, PlatteForum, the Denver International Airport and the Colorado State Capitol. She teaches art courses at Front Range Community College. Lisa developed her papier-mâché technique when she moved to Boulder in 1999 and found it perfect for the dry climate. After creating her small characters, which are about seven inches high, she takes them to various locations to be photographed. In the photographs the sculptures become monumental and dwarf the other elements and environments. Lisa also creates large scale wood sculpture, metal sculpture, wearable art costumes, mixed-media paintings and large scale fabric sculpture, all in cast off materials. LisaMichotArt.com

Focus and Perspective I am both an optical engineer and an artist. In these roles, I view the world through a natural lens and transform that vision into technology or art. I am fascinated with what light can do, especially how it sparks my joy. Through the photographic process, I can literally and figuratively gain personal perspective and focus. With photography, I’m always flirting with serendipity as I work to maintain consistency of vision. In sharing my work, I hope to share the playfulness, introspection, and joy I’ve found in my art. ARTIST STATEMENT Jill Riggin is a watercolor artist living and working in Broomfield, Colorado. She enjoys working with bright, vibrant color creating works of art from realistic landscapes and florals to very abstract interpretations of concepts and ideas. Jill is currently exploring how watercolor, ink, and acrylic paint react on Yupo paper. Yupo is a synthetic paper that does not ab-sorb water, therefore the artist has to be concerned with evapora-tion instead of absorption when she creates her art. FigLeif Jewelry

FigLeif is a relationship between wood and metal. Copper and silver predominate and are selected in combination or as a singular note to enhance the specific wood colors and shapes. We Hand Finish Each Work of Art Each piece is made here in Colorado where we source woods from around the world for their meaning, beauty and timelessness. At FigLeif we test and wear our prototypes to make sure each piece will adhere to our exacting standards. It's A Love Story When Annette met Rick she did not know he was hiding a secret. Rick had a woodshop out back where he created beautiful wooden boxes and Lazy-Susans. When Annette saw his beautiful pile of scraps she instantly saw how the cast off pieces could become earrings and other adornments. As this partnership grew so did the collaborations between artist/designer and artisan/businessman. Now Rick is deliberately creating multi-colored tessellated wood blocks that are the foundation for the designs that they create through slicing and rejoining. Many of the signature pieces begin with a sketch but when the wood is glued, cut and sanded it forms it’s own voice uniquely, ‘FigLeif’. 4593 Broadway C108 Boulder, CO 80304 303-941-8887 FigLeif.com

I am a metalsmith and designer, I work primarily in sterling silver. I also work in Bronze,Copper, Brass, & Steel. I love to see my customers’ reactions when they receive one of my hand made pieces and it is the perfect match to their own style and personality. I view my metalsmithing as functional art. I personally design, hand engrave, and hand solder each and every piece. My designs and metalsmithing are inspired by my natural surroundings. I have enjoyed living in the country in Boulder County, Colorado since 1980. Living east of the majestic Rocky Mountains allows me to see and experience all of the visual changes in nature. I chose Left Hand Creek Designs as the name of my business because Left Hand Creek runs through my property, creating a beautiful, inspiring environment. My work is also influenced by Western design. I appreciate the traditional as well as the contemporary elements of western design. The Vaquero heritage and style of horsemanship is very meaningful for me. I admire the beautiful artistry in this style of silver work, and I enjoy expressing my own creativity through that style. My desire and objective is to create a custom piece of jewelry, concho, buckle, or saddle silver with a sense of artistic beauty and meaning. I seek out unique, natural semi-precious stones as well as the finest Sterling Silver to be used in my designs. I enjoy LeftHandCreekDesigns.com 720-273-3010 LeftHandCreekD@gmail.com

Artist Statement I am inspired to paint colorful abstract forms that are simple and natural feeling. I tend to juxtapose complex color and shapes in a rhythmic pattern. My paintings emerge and flow naturally and unconsciously. Only when the piece is finished do I identify the emotion and motivation for the work. I enjoy abstracts because they allow each viewer to find a personal interpretation, to extract meaning from and insight into their own consciousness. I’m in love with all nature and the atmosphere. Clouds never fail to inspire me! I’ve studied them and continue to enjoy painting them. This earlier influence is evident in my later abstract work. I have studied with many artist-mentors, my mother and grandmother were also painters. I now enjoy teaching and I continue to learn from other artists. I hope that you enjoy my work!

Oil Paintings One of the most fascinating discoveries I’ve made as an artist is realizing just how much needed to be unlearned. To be sure, one must grapple with the history and techniques of art — but the real challenge for me has been undoing my rigid ways of seeing the world through fear and judgment and rediscovering long-lost joy. That may sound rather cliché, for in art (as in life) each of us strives for a bit of originality, but for me, it has been a wonder, perhaps an epiphany, to discover at the innermost part of myself there wasn't emptiness or dread, but a genuine curiosity that soon had me eager to travel and explore. I began to take risks — and enjoy them. It was in Bali where I began to understand what this meant for my art and life. I gained confidence and discovered that art is really play. Painting need not necessarily depict a “thing,” but can actually become a “dance of color” that expresses how I feel. I once saw a de Kooning exhibit of his most famous paintings and was most drawn to the final simplistic pieces that he created after the onset of Alzheimer’s. I was completely mesmerized because these loose lines of bright color were joyous and free, as if released from all influences, expectations and judgments. I wanted to paint from this place. Art heals, and it does so by bringing the inside out. It’s certainly no great insight to say that life isn’t always easy — but art can bring light and joy and color to the darkness, the pain, the fear. As I began to untangle my life and view it as a journey, I allowed my love of bright colors to be expressed and to acquire a new healing purpose. BetsyColeArt.com paint@betsycoleart.com 720-263-7170

THE ARTIST HAS THE POWER TO CHANGE THE WORLD A secret place in the woods carpeted with moss and encircled by fragrant blueberry bushes was my retreat place as a little girl. I would lay my cheek against the soft green, chew on a piece of grass and listen to the songs of the birds. My imagination was a magical silence of peace and light. That imaginative place is the well spring of both my art itself and of its creation. That sense of being is beyond description, pregnant and powerful and mirrored in paintings if they are done with strength and humility. Art is a magical distillation of the best of our humanity and life. It is a powerful cultural expression that is accessible to us through our senses. The five senses are tools to navigate the world. Our senses are also a doorway to our innermost being, a place of peace, warmth, light, intelligence and creativity. It is a place of natural harmony and vitality. We all possess these qualities and our life is in one way or another a manifestation of them. In that sense, we are all artists. If we all lived our life with that awareness, then the world would be a different place. All artists address this, some more clearly than others. If we, as viewers, slow down and examine a painting, a poem, a sculpture, a work of art in that spirit, we will illuminate that within ourselves. It is the artist’s gift to the world. I invite you to enter our secret garden. Paula Breymeier graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in economics and continued her studies in photography and painting at the San Francisco Art Institute and the Boston Museum School. While raising her family, she worked at the University of Colorado and as a designer .
